Please find below resource(s) available for Renewal
Criterion on Demand renewal information for academic libraries is now available.
This is a Consortia Canada offer handled by OCLS.
New platform: Criterion will switch from their current platform to Kaltura on Oct 15-19, 2016. They expect the transfer to be seamless. Please note the following changes:
Films will be able to be played from within Google Chrome once again. Chrome users will not be required to install any further plug-ins to begin streaming. Kaltura uses a modular Universal DRM implementation that does not require Silverlight in Chrome.
Universal DRM still requires the use of Silverlight in Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer until such time as these browsers completely stop support of Silverlight.
The video player utilizes Adaptive Bitrate Streaming, so locations with limited internet bandwidth will still be able to begin playback without interruptions/buffering (the lowest bitrate served is 470kbps and the highest is 1290kbps).
The option to download movies will no longer be available, as there is no downloadable Kaltura player that supports the new Universal DRM. However, the new Adaptive Bitrate Streaming should solve most of the problems people were experiencing with playback that drove downloading in the first place.
Title management is faster and easier in Kaltura so title additions can be more frequent.
Update on temporary removal of approximately 500 titles: In spring 2015, Fox Studios temporarily withdrew approximately 500 titles from the CoD platform. The titles have still not been returned to the platform, but Criterion has said the titles will be returned to the collection in January. However, they will only be accessible on-campus. See attached title list of Fox titles to be added to the collection in January.
Update on access via MARC record vs. vendor URL: With the solution in place for the Fox titles to be made available on-campus only, subscribing institutions can offer access via MARC record or the vendor's platform via the access URL.
Additions & Deletions/MARC records: Criterion is in the process of adding a page to their website where subscribers can access MARC records, updated title lists, and lists of additions and deletions. Link to come.
Licence Agreement: Changes to the licence agreement will need to be made based on the access methods available for CoD. We will continue to work with VoD to update the licence agreement.
New titles: Approximately 100 new titles from eOne Library will be added in November. Title list to come.
From the vendor's site: "Criterion Pictures has developed an on-line digital delivery feature film platform called Criterion-on-Demand. Our goal is to provide easy access to educationally relevant feature films used in Canadian Higher Education Institutions. We have been working closely with Colleges and Universities to ensure we meet the needs of this market sector."
Features of the product include:
Unlimited access via IP address authentication. Access is available both on and off-campus, with the exception of Fox titles, which will only be available on campus. Those titles have not yet been re-added to the collection. They are expected to be available in January 2017.
Access to the streaming media films is available through links in the MARC records or through a link to the CoD platform.
Microsoft Silverlight player is currently required to view films in most browsers, with the exception of Chrome, which does not require Silverlight for streaming films. Films are no longer available to download.
Late joins accepted and will be pro-rated.
If you wish to add, change, or cancel a subscription, please contact Christa Foley by Friday, October 14, 2016. If cancellation notice is not provided by October 14, current subscriptions will be renewed.
This is an October 1 subscription start date but the vendor sent the pricing late and is accomodating responses accordingly.

1. Title Requests
Criterion is willing to add new titles to the platform at the request of libraries. Criterion must already hold the Canadian rights for the film/studio in question. The request form is available at:
2. MARC Records
See the MARC records section below for further details.
3. Title Lists
A complete title lists has been added as attachments below.
WIth the exception of Google Chrome, in order to play films, the user must have the Silverlight browser plug-in installed. This is a DRM system which is designed to prevent misuse of the digital content. Silverlight is free and takes only a few minutes to download and install. Silverlight is compatible with a wide variety of operating systems and browsers.
Not every browser and OS combination is compatible. Please see the System Requirements tab on http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx for more details.
5. Downloading Films
Once the platform changes to Kaltura in October, films will no longer be available for downloading.
