This is a one time purchase of a primary source collection of archive materials, from 1684-1912.
From the vendor:
The American Antiquarian Society Historical Periodicals Collection is the largest collection of North-American-focused historical periodicals available for purchase. Comprised of over 10 million pages, this collection contains approximately 7600 distinct periodical titles, all published between 1691 and 1877. The collection touches on a range of subject areas, including, but not limited to: science, technology, medicine, Native American and African American populations, law, politics, government, music, the arts, literature, language, publishing, agriculture, business and industry, advertising and marketing, religion, philosophy, social movements, military matters, and leisure activities.
The collection can be divided and searched by one of five chronological series, or one of fifty thematic subsets. This customizable segmentation of the collection empowers users of all experience levels to engage with the material with varying levels of granularity and focus. Even further, the Digital Archive Viewer full-text interface delivers on the promises of both in-person archive experiences – where browsing can lead to serendipitous and valuable academic discovery – as well as the promise of electronic resources, wherein users uncover relevant, valuable materials as efficiently as possible. Never before has this content, which was only previously available within the walls of the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts, been available for addition to a library collection or remote access.
One such popular subset that many Canadian libraries have found interesting is the Canadian Periodical Archives:https://www.ebscohost.com/archives/aas-thematic-collections/canadian-periodicals-1790-1877/933
If your library would be interested in contributing to this collection purchase for TAL member libraries, please contact Christa Foley by March 1, 2018 with the contribution amount. Updates about the status of this offer will be shared later. The anticipated go live date would be April 2018.
These dates may change.
