This is a new TAL offering for a purchase of ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Calgary Herald and/or The Edmonton Journal. This is an offer to purchase the archive content on a one-time basis, for province wide access.
February 27: A link to the webinar recording has been added below.
This is an offer for province wide access to either the Calgary Herald or Edmonton Journal, or both. This is a one time purchase with perpetual access rights, for the archive content. Geo IP authentication would be included to faciliate province wide access for all Albertans (details about access for institutions and a portal is being finalized).
The Calgary Herald (1883 - 2010)
The Edmonton Journal (1903 - 2000)
Please see the attached flyer below for product details.
The Edmonton Journal is not yet available but should be by the end of Q1 2020 according to ProQuest.
If your library is interested in contributing to this offer for province wide access, please contact Christa Foley by March 1, 2020, indicating your preference and contribution amount. After March 1, the level of interest will be assessed and libraries will be updated on the status.
It is strongly suggested that the first puchase made is the Calgary Herald if there is not enough funding for both papers at this time. This is being offered now with a tight timeline since some members are requesting to purchase before their fiscal year end.
MARC records for newspapers are not very robust; ProQuest is checking on this for us.
ProQuest will create a portal with a link to the newspaper(s). Access via this link will be geoIP authentication, so those accessing in Alberta will receive access.
Institutions will also be able to access via regular IP authentication. TAL is also exploring options for placing the link elsewhere to accommodate access.
