The Alberta Library (TAL) is excited to announce the launch schedule for the new redesigned TAL Online. The new TAL Online will be going live in the afternoon of June 27, 2016. Users going to talonline.ca will be able to discover and request items from TAL member libraries from across Alberta. Until July 1st a link will be available to the existing WorldCat TAL Online which will be fully functional until that time.
The WorldCat based TAL Online at talonline.worldcat.org will no longer accept interlibrary loan requests as of July 1st, 2016. After July 1st, OCLC has communicated to TAL that this URL will no longer be in use. Users are still able to use WorldCat to discover holdings in Alberta and beyond as well as use their WorldCat accounts to create and curate reading lists. However following July 1st, users will not be able to limit their worldcat searches to Alberta library holdings and will not be able to initiate interlibrary loan requests from worldcat.
When the new TAL Online launches at talonline.ca on June 27th the following features will be available:
However some features available through talonline.worldcat.org will no longer be available including:
Once the new TAL Online is launched, TAL will be immediately evaluating how to improve this service. The timeline for developing and launching this version of TAL Online was very short and as a result we had to prioritize core functionality (searching Alberta library holdings, patron initiated ILL, functional user interface among other things). We are looking for ways to improve this service, so if you have any thoughts or comments, please contact us at email@example.com or contact Brian Lin directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
TAL is very excited be launching a brand new search interface designed specifically for Alberta library users. Please share the information of these changes with your staff and patrons.
