The Alberta Library Is hosting a symposium on March 10, 2025 at 3 pm. It is aimed at current library/library tech/library-related students, new grads, or anyone interested in a library career. It will run for around 1.5 hours.
This event will host a suite of panelists from a variety of library land positions. They will be answering questions about interviews, interview and early career skills, moving for jobs, career paths, etc. There will also be an open Q&A period. All the panelists are in Alberta, but much of their experience is applicable Canada-wide.
The event will be recorded and provided to all those who register.

The speakers:
- Sydney Chappus
- Hi, my name is Sydney Chappus. I am early on in my career, being 1.5 years into my first library position. I have a Library Information Technology Diploma from SAIT and graduated from that program in 2023. I am currently working at the University of Calgary’s Libraries and Cultural Resources as an Information Specialist on the Public Service team.
- Charlie Crittenden
- Charlie Crittenden recently became the Manager of Technology, Services, and Infrastructure at the Northern Lights Library System after working there as a Consultant Librarian over the last year. He graduated in 2023 with his Masters in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alberta. He’s worked in libraries for 7 years, working previously at the Edmonton Public Library as an Adult Page and Library Assistant.
- Kim Geraldi
- Kim Geraldi (she/her) the Southern Alberta History Archivist in Archives and Special Collections at the University of Calgary. She holds a Masters in Information Studies from McGill University and a BA in Canadian History from the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on trust building with equity deserving communities and strives to make the archives a more inclusive place for everyone.
- Lorisia MacLeod
- Lorisia MacLeod is a third-generation library worker and a proud member of the James Smith Cree Nation. She works as the Learning Services Librarian at The Alberta Library primarily supporting the public library members and K-12 schools. She has been working in the information fields since even before she got her MLIS in 2018 making her mid-career.
- Kristin McInnis
- Kristian is a library technician with over 20 years experience in academic libraries. He has been an adjunct instructor in SAIT’s Library Information Technology program, teaching courses in reference, web design and information management.
- Sheryl Pelletier
- Sheryl Pelletier is the Library Director at the Sexsmith Shannon Library since January 2, 2007. Previously, she managed the High Level Library from 1989 to 2006, giving her close to 36 years of understanding small public libraries. She was listed as one of the 100 Library Service Leaders in 2006 during the 100th Anniversary of the Libraries Act. Sheryl’s library advocacy and early participation in many provincial initiatives give her a unique perspective on managing through change. And she is old.
- Weiwei Shi
- Weiwei Shi is the Associate University Librarian at the University of Alberta Library, overseeing Library Technology and Applications, Metadata and Cataloguing Strategies, Library Assessment and Impact, User Experience, Library Communication, Indigenous Initiatives, and strategic partnerships. Weiwei came to Canada in 2003 to pursue an MLIS and graduated from the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta in 2005. With a background in information systems, Weiwei previously served as a Digital Applications Support Librarian at UAL and an Applications Librarian at TAL. She is in her mid-career.
