The Alberta Library Is hosting a symposium on April 29th, 2026 at 2pm. It is aimed at current library/library tech/archives/library-related students, new grads, or anyone interested in a library career. It will run for around 1.5 hours.
This event will host a suite of panelists from a variety of library land positions. They will be answering questions about interviews, interview and early career skills, moving for jobs, career paths, etc. There will also be an open Q&A period. All the panelists are in Alberta, but much of their experience is applicable Canada-wide.
The event will be recorded. If you have registered for the event, the recording will be sent to the email you registered with. It will also be circulated via Jerome and added to our resource page.
The speakers:
- Braden Cannon
- Braden Cannon is a Private Records Archivist at the Provincial Archives of Alberta, where he has been working since 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies from Carleton University and a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from Dalhousie University.

- Shaina Sola
- Shania Sola holds an MLIS from Western University (2024). She works as a Library Technician at Burman University (Lacombe, AB) and has been working in the field for 2 years. She has a passion for cataloguing, AI information literacy, and collection development for graphic novels, children’s and young adult literature. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, board games, reading the latest books, attending K-pop concerts, and taking care of her two cats.
These are the types of questions they will be answering. There will be time for questions from the audience as well.
- What have you learned over your experiences is best for interviews? Preparing, during, and follow-up?
- Do you have any specific advice regarding resumes/CVs?
- Any advice for settling in during the first month at a new job? Things to prioritize?
- What skills would be most helpful for early career library/LIT/Archives? What is most transferable between sectors?
- Thoughts on moving for a job (impact on opportunities, ease of doing so, etc)?
- Any advice on prep/goals for those still in school?
- Is there anything you wish you had done differently on your career journey?
